Lianne Rood, M.P.

A graduate of the University of Windsor, where she earned an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Sociology, Lianne Rood has worked in government and the private sector as a farmer and entrepreneur.
Before being elected to office, Lianne spent six years working as a political staffer in the Stephen Harper Conservative government, including assisting MP Bev Shipley (her predecessor) and Parliamentary Secretary David Anderson on the Agriculture and Natural Resources files, as well as contributing to the development and passage of the Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act while working for Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. Born in London, Ontario and raised on her family’s 1,000-acre vegetable farm in Grand Bend, Ontario; she remains actively involved in the potato business with her brother and maintains deep roots in the farming community. This is Lianne’s third term in Federal Office, where she is serving as the Member of Parliament for Middlesex-London, having previously represented Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
Lianne currently serves as the Shadow Minister as the Shadow Minister for International Development and for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario . Since her first election. she has had the pleasure of supporting the Conservative team in the following roles: Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food, Shadow Minister for Rural Economic Development and Rural Broadband Strategy, and as Official Opposition Deputy Whip, and Co-Chair of Question Period Planning. She has been a Member on the Agriculture and Agri-Food Committee (including as Vice-Chair) , the Ethics Committee, and currently sits on the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. She is a member of many Interparliamentary Associations and Groups including Canada-United States (Vice-Chair), Canada-Africa (Director), Canada-Europe (director), Canada-Japan (Director), Canadian Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (Director) , Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association, and the Canadian Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly.
